This opportunity is for playwrights from schools who have not entered this play as either an associate or participating production in Region 3. One full-length play will be chosen for a script-in-hand reading at the Region 3 Festival. Please note the following guidelines:
  1. Running time for the play must be longer than 60 minutes.
  2. Submissions must be blind; please remove all identifying information for both playwright and school from the entire script, including the title page, and all headers and footers.
  3. Play(s) will be selected by a reading committee from outside the region.
  4. If selected, we hope the playwright can attend the regional festival where the play will be given a script-in-hand reading. If the playwrights cannot attend the festival their plays will still be eligible for national awards (see below) provided that they have been produced by a college or university or publicly presented in a "rehearsed" or "staged reading" format following a significant development process. This reading can occur at their home school or at the regional festival (either is acceptable).
  5. If chosen to participate in the Region 3 festival, the playwright may choose to bring their own director and cast, or s/he can choose to have a director assigned and a cast selected from among the actors who audition for the ten-minute play readings on the Wednesday afternoon of the festival.
  6. The selected play will automatically become eligible for all national awards for full-length plays from the KCACTF (The Michael Kanin Playwriting Awards Program), except the National Student Playwriting Award, which goes to a play entered as a participating production.
  7. Playwrights may enter no more than two scripts.
